Kristen Stewart made her short-film directorial debut with Scott Free in 2017 with the experimental short “Come Swim.” Deadline reports that Stewart will make her feature film debut with Scott Free, too. And this film also deals with swimming, albeit in a more direct way.

Stewart will adapt “The Chronology Of Water,” Lidia Yuknavitch‘s 2011 memoir of the same name, as her big-screen filmmaking debut. The memoir follows a young woman whose life gets saved through swimming and lyrical poetry as she grows up from a sexually abusive household to become a teacher, mother, and writer. Imogen Poots will star as Yuknavtich in the upcoming film. Stewart co-adapts the script with Andy Mingo.
“Lidia’s memoir honors corporeal experience, radically,” said Stewart in a press statement about the film. “To make that experience physical feels vital to me and what this impulse means … is that it absolutely must be a film. This project has been cooking for five years with the help of Scott Free, whom I could not be more privileged to have as partners and friends. Imogen Poots will carry this movie and the staggering weight of Lidia’s life. She can hold it. I am beyond lucky to have her.”
Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss produce the project with Scott Free with Andy Mingo. Rebecca Feuer also serves as executive producer on the film through Scott Free.
Stewart’s recent work includes her Oscar-nominated performance as Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain‘s “Spencer.” This year, she starred in David Cronenberg‘s “Crimes Of The Future.” She also recently wrapped shooting on “Love Lies Bleeding,” Rose Glass‘ sci-fi love story. She co-stars in that film with Steven Yeun.
As for Poots, recent film roles include Florian Zeller‘s “The Father” with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman and Azazel Jacob‘s “French Exit.” She also had a large supporting role on Prime Video‘s “Outer Range” the year with Josh Brolin.
“The Chronology Of Water” joins the ever-growing list of Scott Free’s upcoming films. A lot is coming from that banner in the next year or two, including Scott’s “Napoleon” film with Apple with Joaquin Phoenix as the French military leader and emperor. Other titles include Matt Ruskin‘s “Boston Strangler” with Keira Knightley, Jordan Scott‘s “Berlin Nobody” with Eric Bana and Sadie Sink, Fede Alvarez‘s new “Alien” movie, and Kenneth Branagh‘s “A Haunting In Venice.”
A Kristen Stewart-Imogen Poots team-up? Hard not to be excited about this upcoming film. Don’t expect “The Chronology Of Water” in theaters until 2024, though.
