Got a Tip?

‘The Tempest’ Will Make Its North American Premiere At The New York Film Festival

The New York Film Festival is stepping up its game this year. They’ve already landed David Fincher’s highly anticipated and heavily buzzed “The Social Network” for their opening night film and now word has arrived that Julie Taymor’s “The Tempest,” after making its international bow as the Closing Night film at the Venice Film Festival, with debut on North American shores as the Centerpiece selection at the NYFF.

“The Tempest” follows Helen Mirren’s Prospera, a woman scorned after being unjustly usurped and exiled by the brother of her deceased husband so he can claim her title. Mirren has an illustrious supporting cast, including Chris Cooper, Felicity Jones, David Strathairn, Djimon Hounsou, Reeve Carney, Alan Cumming, Alfred Molina, Ben Whishaw and Russell Brand.

After being left in limbo by the closure of parent company Miramax, “The Tempest” has finally found a distribution home through Disney subsidiary Touchstone, which has tentatively slated the film for a December release, though a confirmed date has yet to materialize.
