Got a Tip?

Teaser Posters Arrive For ‘Ender’s Game,’ ‘White House Down’ ‘Pacific Rim’ & ‘You’re Next’

nullMany years from now, when humanity is but a memory and earth is ruled by monkeys, anthropologists will uncover a treasure trove of movie poster one-sheets, and conclude that movies in the early 21st century consisted mostly of people watching a character’s back while they look at something cool. From “The Dark Knight Rises” to “Battleship” to “Star Trek Into Darkness,” the latest trend in one-sheet design is to avoid a character’s face entirely. Whether it’s inspired by third-person video games, or just by everyone copying Batman, it seems every other blockbuster is going down this route when it comes to the marketing, and the latest to get in on the act is “Ender’s Game.”

Gavin Hood‘s adaptation of idiot homophobe Orson Scott Card’s seminal sci-fi novel was originally set to land around this time, but got pushed back more than six months, so the marketing campaign is just getting started. And it’s kicked off with the below one-sheet, which features someone (presumably Asa Butterfield‘s title character) looking out of a space station window. From behind, naturally. Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Harrison Ford, Viola Davis and Ben Kingsley also star in the film, which sees children taken into space to train to fight against an alien race, and the film opens on November 1st. With “The Host” and “G.I. Joe Retaliation” hitting theaters on Friday, we’d expect a teaser trailer to follow before the week is out. [Yahoo]

Now that “Olympus Has Fallen” is in theaters, Sony are getting going on their campaign for their own Pennsylvania Avenue-set actioner, “White House Down.” The earlier, Gerard Butler-starring film was seen as very much the underdog, but exceeded expectations this past weekend and made a very solid $30 million. Is this good news or bad news for its rival, directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke? We’ll find out when it opens on June 28th, but this teaser poster, via Moviefone, isn’t particularly inspiring.

Also gearing up its marketing campaign is “You’re Next,” the long-delayed horror from director Adam Wingard (“V/H/S“). The film, about a group of home invaders who find more than they reckoned in one victim, premiered at TIFF in 2011 to rave reviews, and was snapped up by Lionsgate, who’ve taken their sweet time working out what they want to do with it.

But they’ve finally set a date, and after bringing the film to SXSW earlier in the month (where we had a good time with it – read our review here), they’ve emailed over a trio of creepy posters for the film. Focusing on the animal-masked interlopers, they’re fairly unnerving, if a touch familiar. The film opens August 23rd, so again, expect to see a trailer paired with an upcoming horror release (“Evil Dead,” maybe?)

And finally, as we were going to press, as it were, Coming Soon have nabbed a new teaser poster for “Pacific Rim,” Guillermo Del Toro‘s monster mash. Again, it emphasizes the massive sense of scale on the project, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuichi, Idris Elba and Charlie Day, and looks like it might be the first of a series focusing on the Jaegers, the giant robots that the film centers around. The film opens on July 12th.
