Quentin Tarantino Says Warren Beatty Version Of ‘Kill Bill’ Would Have Been “James Bond As Blofeld”

Hey, it’s #ThrowbackThursday and each week we look to the past and highlight something in cinema history that’s fascinating, amusing, perhaps something you never knew or have seen, you name it.

Quentin Tarantino is about to begin production on his newest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Sadly, that means we still have over a year to wait before audiences will be able to see the film in theaters. So, to give everyone their much-needed dose of Tarantino, we decided to share this clip of the filmmaker discussing how some of his previous films would have been very different if other actors had signed up.

Did you know that Daniel Day-Lewis was one of the people circling the part of Vincent Vega in “Pulp Fiction?” “[Daniel Day Lewis] was interested in the part,” admits Tarantino. Of course, John Travolta did amazingly well in the role and revitalized his acting career in the process, but one can’t help but wonder what the film would have been like with some DDL.

However, a large chunk of the discussion is centered around “Kill Bill,” particularly the titular role of Bill. Tarantino reveals that the original script for the film was very different than what we saw on screen, and was written for a completely different actor – namely Warren Beatty.

“It was really interesting reading ‘Kill Bill’ again, that first draft because that’s the Warren Beatty version. He’s much more of a James Bond type of character. Like James Bond as Blofeld, basically. That guy never got portrayed.”

“I was a little worried that Warren Beatty might look faintly ridiculous in this,” he continued.

You’re definitely going to want to listen to the whole clip, as QT also goes over who else could have played Alabama in “True Romance,” as well as why he ultimately turned down directing that film after “Reservoir Dogs.”

Overall, it’s a fascinating exercise in “What If?” with one of the best filmmakers working today.
