After years of talking about it and fans wondering if it’ll ever get made, it appears that Netflix’s long-in-development “Beverly Hills Cop” sequel is moving ahead. To help gain a bit of momentum, it appears that Eddie Murphy is no longer the only cast member to sign on, as we have two more stars joining the sequel.
According to Deadline, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” (yes, that’s the new title) has cast Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in roles opposite Eddie Murphy in the new film. It’s unclear what the plot of the new film will be, but we have to assume that Axel Foley, the Detroit cop who finds himself in the world of Beverly Hills, returns to solve a new murder, with hilarity ensuing. The original film is one of the most successful R-rated films of all time and spawned multiple sequels, each doing worse than the previous.
Paige is probably best known for her starring role in the A24 film, “Zola.” She’s next expected to appear in “Sharp Stick” and can be seen in the recent comedy, “Mack & Rita.” Gordon-Levitt was recently seen in the acclaimed drama series, “Super Pumped.” Interestingly enough, today it was also announced that he’s going to co-star with Tessa Thompson in the sci-fi film, “Ash,” from director Flying Lotus.
