Update: Deadline reports that Amanda Seyfried has pretty much locked up Cosette, as he's now in final negotiations for the part.
Considering Tom Hooper's splashy, star-studded musical "Les Miserables" is due in theaters by the end of the year, this thing needs to finish casting and get in front of cameras soon. And the race is on, as offers are now out for a couple of the remaining roles to be cast.
Twitch has been working their sources hard, reporting that Taylor Swift and Amanda Seyfried have started off the new year with offers for the roles of Eponine and Cosette respectively in the film. Swift looks as though she's now the favorite for the director who has been eyeing a number of candidates, including Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and (our personal choice) Evan Rachel Wood last fall. As for Seyfried, little did we know she's an opera trained singer, which should come in handy considering the rumor is that no voice doubles will be used in the production. The odd bit here is that she will be playing the daughter of Fantine, the role taken by Anne Hathaway, who is only three years older than she is. Hmm.
Should this come to pass, the duo will join the A-list cast that already includes Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne. The production is gearing up to shoot this spring — but Swift has a tour lined up for Australia and New Zealand in March, which may cause a scheduling issue (unless they can work around it). But Seyfried's schedue is clear once she wraps up the porn biopic "Lovelace," which is shooting now. Anyway, this will all get sorted soon as "Les Miserables" hits theaters on December 7, 2012.
Thank God they reconsidered and cast Samantha Barks as 'Ponine (she played her in the 25th anniversary). I really debated not going because TSwift would be playing my favorite character. Now, you can bet I can't wait for the release!
If this were a perfect production:
I think this show should habe casted some of the West End cast or the cast from the 25th anniversary instead of turning it into 'Hollywood'.
I've seen Les Mis on Broadway twice and was not impressed by both performances. Someone even forgot a line when I saw my second show and failed to recover professionally so I really hope that they take tips from the West End production.
Despite my bad experiences from seeing Broadway shows, I can not fault Aaron Tveit. He was brilliant when I saw him in Wicked and outstanding when I saw him in Catch Me If You Can so I'm very pleased he'll be playing the role of Enjorlas.
I think Taylor will do very well in the role. I can't wait to see it!
If they pick Taylor, She'll need some acting lessons in terms of facial expressions. I know its a musical, but some acting is required. Don't mind about Amanda Seyfried. This could be the making of her if not already.
Taylor Swift over lea Michelle, i know this is a Hollywood production but isn't be pushing it?
Its bad enough they didn't pick Alfie for Jean Valjean, and a very young Anne for Fantine but Taylor for Eponine over Lea? I can picture Seyfried as Cosette, no problem there, she's actually perfect for the part to be honest but Taylor over Lea? Getting confused here maybe Taylor has something that we are yet to see, can he hit those notes of Eponine plus she's too pretty for the part, but anyways lets see what will be done with this. this is very intriguing.
Taylor Swift can act? I don't mean for this to sound snarky but when, where, how?
This could be great with a great looking cast … but it could also be another Nine or another Mamma Mia. Broadways plays that took a wrong turn on the way to the big screen despite impressive casts.
HAHAHAHAHAAAA it's too early for April fools.
Umm… (possible spoiler) – "Fantine" played by Hathaway, dies when "Cosette" played by Seyfried, is a child. Seyfried would be playing older Cosette. So they don't have any scenes together. The film spans quite a few years.
