How do you get audiences interested in a fascinating, dizzying, dense, impenetrable, funny, dry, strange just plain weird arthouse flick? Get famed comic book artist and cartoonist Chris Ware to design a mind-bogglingly beautiful poster for it.
Vulture has dropped the Ware designed poster for Apichatpong Weerasethakul‘s “Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives” and we immediately want to frame and hang this one up. The Palme d’Or winner is difficult to describe or even summarize but it’s a ghost story about family, history, loss, death, reincarnation and uh, catfish/princess sex. It’s definitely a unique viewing experience and one probably best had with an audience as it’s sure to cause divisive reactions. As for Ware, if you’re not familiar with his work pick up “Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth,” and then call us when you’re done. It’s great.
“Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives” opens on March 2nd in New York. Check out the poster in all its glory below.
HOLY SHIT!!
Also, I\’ve been trying to remember the name of that comic/artist for a few weeks now. Thanks!
