With “Thor: Love And Thunder” hitting theaters next Friday, Taika Waititi‘s Hollywood star continues to ascend. And with another project in the books, the director looks ahead to his upcoming projects: “Next Goal Wins,” another season of “Our Flag Means Death,” and his “Star Wars” film that was announced back in 2020.
However, in an interview with The New York Times, Waititi expressed doubts about whether his “Star Wars” movie would even get made. “I’m trying to write the ‘Star Wars’ idea at the moment,” he said,” “I’ve got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even.” So, it sounds like that project is still in the early developmental phase.
Almost no follow-up has happened since news broke about a Waititi “Star Wars” film in 2020. The only confirmation was the new movie would be a standalone film in the galaxy far, far away, with no Skywalker saga, no trilogy structure, and so forth. n Instead, what would be at the forefront of the new film is Waititi’s inimitable filmmaking style, which Marvel has now put to good use in two “Thor” movies.
But from Waititi’s remarks, it sounds like nothing is set in stone for his “Star Wars” project, not even it getting the green light by Kathleen Kennedy & co. And Waititi sounds alright with that possibility, too. “I am cool as well to take six months off and just go hang out with my kids,” he said.
“Thor: Love And Thunder” hits theaters on July 8.
