Already having traveled the world in 2013, with festival stops in Los Angeles, Athens and Stockholm, the next destination for Jeff Broadway‘s hip-hop documentary “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton (This Is Stones Throw Records)” is SXSW, and in case you’re not on the ground in Austin, a pretty sizeable little tease has landed digitally.
The first five minutes of the documentary have gone online, and hip-hop heads will want to take note. Talib Kweli, A-Trak, Questlove, Common and Kanye West introduce the film which chronicles the history of indie hip-hop label Stones Throw, founded by the one and only Peanut Butter Wolf. Since 1996, the company has been dropping some of the most adventurous and forward-thinking hip-hop to hit wax, and now they are finally getting their due with a full-length look at what they’ve been doing for close to two decades.
Also featuring appearances by DOOM, Madlib, Dam-Funk, Mike D, Snoop Dogg, Tyler The Creator and more, “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton (This Is Stones Throw Records)” continues to play SXSW this week.
