SXSW 2023 Preview: 25 Must-See Film & TV Projects To Watch

From music to television to film, SXSW has prided itself on helping creative people achieve their goals since its founding in 1987. While many arguably look to Sundance, TIFF, or Cannes for the most anticipated films, the 2022 Austin, Texas, festival was really hoping to make a splash as it returned as an in-person festival.

Looking back on last year’s festival, it did just that! A24 made SXSW its home for their big releases such as “Bodies Bodies Bodies, Ti West‘s “X,” and the biggest hit of the last film cycle, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Apart from A24, there were plenty of buzz-worthy titles across the film and television space, such as “To Leslie,” “I Love My Dad,” “WeCrashed,” and “The Girl From Plainville.” With that in mind, we are looking forward to SXSW 2023 as they keep the trend going with offerings for audiences of any genre in this year’s festival, which runs from March 10-19, 2023.

There is something for everyone in this year’s lineup: big names and talent, documentaries, narratives, shorts, and international titles. We hear from The Zombies in “Hung Up on a Dream,” there is another telling of the true-crime story of a Texas ax murderer, this time starring Elizabeth Olsen, and daughter-father duo Clara McGregor and Ewan McGregor will share the screen again.

The much anticipated season 2 of “Blindspotting” will have its world premiere. Sean Menard shows audiences how Canadian music-video television influenced culture for decades to come. And Donald Glover is back, but not with another season of “Atlanta,” instead with a story of sex, murder, and music with “Swarm.”

As we approach the 2023 SXSW festival, there is much to look forward to. Here is our list of the most anticipated projects to look out for.
