20th Century Fox’s May tentpole, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” despite being spread all over the Internet via pirating less than a month before its release and the postponement of its Mexican opening due to the outbreak of swine-flu stands to do a healthy amount of business on its opening this weekend.
According to THR,“”X-Men Origins: Wolverine” looks likely to open with at least $80 million domestically — though Fox execs insist even a $70 million bow would be acceptable on the pic.” Holy shit. Not bad for a film that reportedly cost $150 million to produce and seems to have been hit with endless bad luck.
The movie may have to also fight the fact that its not very good. Even though reviews of the film are “under embargo” until the day of the release May 1* (‘cept for people like this guy), Justin Chang at Variety said the film was “dim-witted,” and “bears all the marks of a work for hire, conceived and executed with a big budget but little imagination.” Umm, that’s saying it nicely to be frank. *What does that tell you when a studio wants you to hold releases to the day of? Duh, figure it out.
In the end, the negative reviews and low-low quality of the film probably won’t matter and the movie will rake in its $80 million opening weekend, which is sad state of affairs that you should weep about. As with any flashy May tentpole, the standards are low enough that the action-starved comic-book contingency will head to the theaters for just about anything, even this piece of tripe-looking swill.
this blog is just too cool for school and above it all. so obvious. get off it.
or you could just not read the site and it’d probably benefit both of us.
Also, if you actually like and enjoy that piece of shit, you’re seriously not the reader we’re looking for frankly.
I’ve talked to a lot of the geek sites who normally like that kind of thing and even they think the film is crap.
Anon, from now on, we will say nice things about pandering piece of shit blockbusters for simpering half-wits. Deal?
This blog is just too cool for school and above it all.
“Wolverine is a great movie. We are subliterate retards.”
Does that do it for you?
not the point. i hated wolverine. hated it. its just the attitude. what happened? News corp turn down your application?
ha, no i warned a buddy about working for newscorp. I was on the money. Prolly one of the worst jobs he ever had.
But honestly, what i love about freewill is choice. Just don’t read us. I’m sure you’ll be better off. We’re not here to gain audiences. We’re here to say what we want. If people want to be around, great. If not, there’s plenty of other toothless, fanboy sites for readers who would rather have lemmings happily racing towards the cliffs the safe little middle.
I don’t get it. Are we too mean? Why don’t you get on other movie sites for sucking too much cock?
thats the problem. i think you do a nice job about 80% of the time. so its one of those car wrecks i just cant stop admiring. being an expert myself on many subjects, including film, i enjoy reading your shit, (even if it is all high and mighty, and above all the losers who havent sat through a andrei tarkovsky film marathon). so thats pretty much that. keep up the good work, and when in burbank make sure to visit.
Let me recap-
-We do a good job 80% of the time, and the rest of the time we are a car wreck?
-You tolerate it because you are an “expert” on many subjects?
-You want us to “visit” you in Burbank?
Wow.
