Got a Tip?

Supermodel Daisy Lowe To Make Screen Debut Opposite ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Alfie Allen In Brit Thriller ‘Confine’

nullThe track record of supermodels making their way on to the big screen is not a particularly strong one. Cindy Crawford in "Fair Game?" Not so much. Gisele Bundchen in "Taxi?" No thank you. Heidi Klum in "Ella Enchanted?" Let's move on, please. Nevertheless, they keep trying, particularly so in the current generation. Lily Cole, for example, has actually had more success than most, with roles in films like "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus" and the upcoming "Snow White And The Huntsman." And now, one of Cole's catwalk colleagues is dipping her toes into acting waters.

Screen Daily report that model Daisy Lowe, who has been a magazine fixture since she was 17, will make her major acting debut in the British thriller "Confine," which begins filming next month. In the directorial debut of Tobias Tobbell, who produced the well-regarded 2010 indie "The Drummond Will," Lowe will take the lead role alongside rising stars Alfie Allen (brother of pop star Lily Allen, and star of "Atonement" and "Game of Thrones") and Eliza Bennett (the lead in "Inkheart").

The model, who previously appeared in "The First Days Of Spring," a feature-length film tied to the Noah & The Whale album of the same name, will play a disfigured former model taken hostage by a sociopathic con artist (Bennett) and her boyfriend (Allen), which sparks off an unlikely friendship. This could go either way: a low-rent straight-to-video curio or the next "Disappearance Of Alice Creed" — filming gets underway in early February, so we'll probably see how it turns out early in 2013.

  1. All that having been said, I caught a screening of this film a few days ago in London.
The 'disfigurement' Daisy's character was supposedly mean't to have been suffering from (which was so bad it caused her to become an agoraphobic- the main plot of the story) was no more than a couple of scratches on one side of her face that hadn't affected her facial symmetry or damaged her eye. Her character did walk with a cane, but that detail was counteracted by the high heels her character wore!
She may make a good career from acting one day in the future, but by no fault of her own she will not from this film. Her performance and the story overall was just 'blah'.

  2. The list of models turned actors isn't THAT bad.

    Charlize Theron
    Jessica Lange
    Milla Jovovich
    Famke Janssen
    Diane Kruger
    Rebecca Romijn
    Cameron Diaz

Granted, not all of them were "SUPER"models turned master thespians. I guess once they became successful as actors, people forgot they started as models.
