There are countless reasons to love Netflix‘s hit “Stranger Things“: the cast, from the young actors to Winona Ryder and David Harbour getting the best roles they’ve had in forever, is uniformly terrific; The Duffer Brothers have created a world with nods to the great Amblin-esque films of the ’70s and ’80s but retains its own flavor; and then there’s that soundtrack.
Created by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of the Austin band S U R V I V E, the duo have put themselves on the map in a major way with their score for “Stranger Things.” Evoking both John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream, the pair have conjured music that is as vital to the feeling and texture of the series as anything else. It’s absolutely terrific. And it there’s a lot of it, apparently, with the soundtrack release being spread over two volumes.
The first has dropped today digitally, and if you want the CD, you can buy it on September 16th. The second volume will arrive digitally next week, on August 19th, with the CD coming on September 23rd.
So sit back, check out volume one below, and let the nostalgic waves wash over you.
