They looked to Westeros for help on keeping season two secrets secret
How serious was the production about keeping plot details under wraps? Matt Duffer reveals, “We literally consulted with the ‘Game of Thrones‘ producers to learn about their security protocols because if we suddenly threw out our script at the end of the day someone might go dumpster diving and leak a spoiler on the internet.”
Harbour was trolled on Instagram by someone claiming to be one of the directors of the new season
It turns out the incredibly outspoken Harbour (it seemed like he might give away the entire second season at any moment) was catfished during production by a fan eager for details on the new season. “We had a director for episode seven, Rebecca Thomas, and somebody on Instagram pretended to be her and reached out to me, and I didn’t know her all that well and she started talking to me about the episode and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, how’d the last week go? Was everything okay? Blah, blah, blah, it was really nice working with you.’ Then literally had an onslaught of messages from other fans, going, ‘This guy is not that director, stop talking to him! We don’t want to know!’ Then he, himself, was like, ‘I’m really sorry, man. I just did a bad thing. I wanted to get something out of you.” I was like, “I’m glad I didn’t tell you anything, then.” It turns out this exchange led to everyone in production getting a letter warning them about talking about the show on social media.
Millie had to go into major stealth mode to keep her return a secret
Since it wasn’t initially confirmed Brown would return for season two (although how could she not?) the British actress had to go through quite a bit to not only get to Atlanta, where the show films, but get to set. She reveals, “What basically happened was we weren’t allowed to say a thing, and we’re still not, and we had to throw away our sides every second. It was top secret. Before, when it wasn’t announced I was coming back, I had to wear cloaks going on set. Cloaks. When I was going I had to go through lines at airport and I’d wear wigs. I don’t know, it was just so weird and then when I finally got announced, it was like (sigh of relief).”
“Stranger Things” is expected to return on Oct. 31.
