Frankly, we’re surprised it took as long as it did for this to happen, but Deadline reports that Summit Entertainment, Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi have teamed up and optioned “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour” to turn into a big screen movie.
Based on the extensive New York Times article written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, the piece chronicles the events leading up to the oil rig explosion that created the worst oil spill in U.S. history. So who better to bring that story to life than the guy who has a story credit on “Ninja Assassin“? Yep, Matthew Sand will be penning the screenplay.
As we’ve said before, Americans love watching their national tragedies play out on the big screen so it was only a matter of time before a movie was made out of this event. It’s definitely a tragic story and there probably isn’t too much need to mess with the truth of it as the real story is dramatic enough as it is.
