Steven Spielberg Talks Speedy Production Of ‘The Post’ & More With Patty Jenkins

At this time last year, “The Post” wasn’t even on the radar. But within a couple of months, the project would be announced, and with an efficiency that would impress Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg knocked out “The Post” and got his latest ready for Oscar contention before you could flip the calendar to 2018. The turnaround on the movie was incredible, and it’s a point that’s underlined in a chat between Spielberg and Patty Jenkins.

Following a DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 17th, Jenkins spoke Spielberg about this picture. The filmmaker revealed that an astonishing 90 days elapsed from the time he first finished reading the script to looking at the final print. Some blockbusters spend that much time on pre-production alone; it’s a remarkable feat. Spielberg also mentioned that the films of Sidney Lumet (“Dog Day Afternoon,” “Prince Of The City“) were also an influence. Meanwhile, Jenkins spoke a little bit about her brewing TV pilot “One Day She’ll Darken” starring Chris Pine.

It’s a terrific 33-minute listen, and one more reason to stay indoors before facing the cold. “The Post” is now playing.
