‘Star Wars’ Soundtracks Will Get Deluxe Reissue Treatment

Star Wars SoundtracksAs the mania for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" rises over the next few months, you’ll see plenty of material from years gone by re-packaged and sold to cash in on the frenzy for all things related to that galaxy far, far away. And Sony Classical isn’t missing a cultural moment.

The company announced they’ll reissue the soundtracks for all six "Star Wars" films to date in a variety of flavors to choose from. For all you analog nerds, you can grab the new editions on vinyl. If you’re still playing compact discs, those will be available as well, and bundled with a bonus CD and DVD of extra content. Or, if you just want to rock it on your iPhone, you can grab these digitally and download ’em right to your device.

The "Star Wars" soundtracks arrive on January 8, 2016, by which point you’ll probably have seen ‘The Force Awakens’ 29 times. Full details below.

The sweeping, dazzling music that fueled Star Wars will be reissued by Sony Classical in three new, definitive editions — Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl CollectionStar Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition, and Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection. All composed by John Williams, these unique collector’s sets will be released worldwide January 8, 2016.

  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork.
  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition includes the original six soundtracks in mini-album jackets, plus a bonus CD featuring audio interviews with Harrison Ford and John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one-hour special highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectible stickers.
  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection features a bundle of the six original soundtracks available for the first time as high-definition downloads.

  1. why reissue the CDs when you are not going to get anything new? Sony should have release a 12 disc set, with two cd\’s for each film, with new unreleased material for Clones and Sith, it looks like a true missed opportunity. it is about time the powers that be release expanded scores for episodes 2 and 3.

  2. Assuming they don\’t screw up the mastering on them (especially the older ones) then this is fantastic news. I personally hate the fact that they\’re putting the CD releases in those tiny cardboard sleeves, which is guaranteed to wreak havoc on the reflective sides of the discs (and is a pretty crummy and cheap choice of packaging, especially when we know Sony could do better) though.
