After the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” I think it’s fair to say that most fans of the franchise are ready for something new. Or at least, something that isn’t directly tied into the world of Skywalkers. We thought that was going to be “The Mandalorian,” but when you watch the Season 2 finale, you see that not even that series is immune from the Skywalkers. But “Star Wars: The High Republic?” Yes, there are Jedi and lightsabers, but judging from the first trailer for this new era of “Star Wars,” it appears to be the fresh start that people have been clamoring for.
Before we introduce the new trailer, it’s important to know the context of ‘The High Republic.’ This isn’t a new TV series or film. This isn’t even a new title for a book or comic. Instead, it’s the era of “Star Wars” that is set hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga at the height of the Jedi. This is the setting that is going to be explored in a variety of new books and comics that are all set to arrive over the next year or so.
Sure, Lucasfilm previously said ‘The High Republic’ won’t be spun off into films or TV series, but let’s be real, if successful, it could be the setting for much more than just books and comics. In fact, we’ve already seen evidence of this.
As we’ve already seen with the recently announced “The Acolyte,” a new Disney+ series from Leslye Headland, ‘The High Republic’ will be explored in live-action eventually. However, that series is said to take place at the tail-end of the new era, so there’s still plenty of fertile ground to be explored without having to immediately tie-in with a TV show or film.
That said, we’ve seen how “The Mandalorian” is introducing a lot of concepts from comics and animation into the world of “Star Wars” live-action. So, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that, in the future, we could be seeing some of these ‘High Republic’ characters and stories making their way to films or TV series.
If you want to get in on the ground floor of this new era of “Star Wars” storytelling, the new ‘High Republic’ content will begin this month with a few new books that will officially kick off this new canon. You can watch the trailer below.
