Got a Tip?

Spike Lee To Travel Through Time

Before you go, “Wait, Spike Lee tackling Sci-Fi??” “The Time Traveller: One Man’s Mission To Make Time Travel A Reality,” is actually a memoir by one of the nation’s first African-Americans to earn a Ph.D in theoretical physics, Ronald Mallet.

Lee, who spent his own money to aquire the novel, will co-write and direct the adaptation of a man’s rise from poverty to a distinguished scientific/ academic career who became obssesed with creating a time machine so he could go back into the past and visit his deceased father.

“[It’s a] fantastic story on many levels [and] also a father and son saga of loss and love,” Lee told Variety.

Interestingly enough, time travel seems to be on Lee’s brain of late. In recent years he was attached to, “Selling Time,” about a guy who sells part of his life expectancy so he can go travel back into the past to attempt to right some personal wrongs, but he’s no longer attached to the project. Lee’s WWII epic, “Miracle At St. Anna” bows out in September and will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier that month.

– David Gordon Green / Judd Apatow’s “Pineapple Express” will debut early at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal on July 19, three weeks before it opens proper. Just For Laughs has also named Apatow, the “Comedy Person Of The Year.” [Hollywood Reporter]

– Hard up for ideas much? J.J. Abrams is making a movie based on an apartment in New York that has lots of secret compartments. Congratulations? [Reuters]

First Showing has a review of Harold Ramis’ “Year One,” script, the movie of which will feature Michael Cera and Jack Black. Their verdict? “Biblical blasphemy has never been so funny.” Notable because the script was kept under tight wraps for months. The film is another Judd Apatow production. [First Showing]

“It’s a ridiculous futuristic action movie.” – Real talk from Ludacris about starring in “Game” next to Gerard Butler. He’ll also start alongside Mark Wahlberg in” Max Payne.” [MTV]
