First Clip From Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’ Discusses The Difference Between A Job And A Crusade

One of the biggest films to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival is Spike Lee’s latest “BlacKkKlansman.” The film recently premiered to pretty rave reviews and is getting a lot of attention due to its not-so-subtle social message (amplified by the fact that Lee isn’t holding back in press conferences, either). And in the first clip from the film, we get to see that social message or not, “BlacKkKlansman” features two great actors in what is a pretty unbelievable true story.

In the clip, you see John David Washington as Ron Stallworth, talking to Adam Driver’s Flip Zimmerman, as they talk about why they’re doing the sting operation at the center of the film’s plot. Washington and Driver, if you don’t already know, play two Colorado police officers that go undercover as a member of the Ku Klux Klan to gain intel. Washington is quite literally the voice of “Ron,” while Driver is the face.

The film recently had its premiere at Cannes and is scheduled to be released in the States on August 10.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From visionary filmmaker Spike Lee comes the incredible true story of an American hero. It’s the early 1970s, and Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth bravely sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. The young detective soon recruits a more seasoned colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), into the undercover investigation of a lifetime. Together, they team up to take down the extremist hate group as the organization aims to sanitize its violent rhetoric to appeal to the mainstream. Produced by the team behind the Academy-Award® winning Get Out.
