‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel Lands Director, Isn’t Messing With What Works

With $472 million worldwide and counting, it’s safe to say that Marvel and Sony‘s teamup on “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is a success. Now, of course, attention is turning to the sequel which is already penciled in for 2019, and they aren’t messing with a good thing.

THR reports that director Jon Watts is in talks to return and sling his cinematic web behind the camera. It’s a pretty remarkable rise for the filmmaker whose previous effort before going tentpole was the $5 million thriller “Cop Car.” There’s no word yet on who will be penning the script, but the followup to ‘Homecoming’ will see Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker reacting to what are sure to be some heavy events in “Avengers: Infinity War.” I would not be surprised if the Avengers find themselves giving the young man a bit more central role in their superhero organization. Perhaps we’ll find out more this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con….

Spider-Man: Prom Date” (or whatever it will be called) opens on July 5, 2019.
