Got a Tip?

‘Spartans’ Trounces ‘Rambo’ and ‘Cloverfield’; ‘Juno’ Cracks The $100 Million Mark

We don’t normally care about Box-office weekends so much and this one was particularly dismal, but we did want to amuse ourselves with this cheap graphic.

The retarded genre spoof, “Meet The Spartans” trounced both “Rambo” and “Cloverfield” at the box-office this weekend (it’s a little like parsing the Special Olympics) raking in a winning $18.7 million. “Rambo” was not far behind, grossing $18.2 mil.

“Cloverfield” on the otherhand took a huge tumble, losing 68% of it’s box-office take and falling to no. 4 with a $12.7 million gross. The romantic comedy “27 Dresses” fell 41%, but it was still enough to move up to beat the monster movie at the no. 3 position with $13.6 million.

The biggest news this box-office weekend is that the indie-comedy, “Juno” broke the $100 million mark – a massive achievement for a film that cost a meager $2.5 million to make. It’s looking to become one of the most profitable films ever if it hasn’t already. Having expanded to nearly 900 screens, “There Will Be Blood” jumped into the top 10 for the first time, earning the eighth spot with $4.9 million (the Oscar buzz surely helped).
