It would seem that at the moment,
Joaquin Phoenix is drawn to stories of oddball relationships. Last year, he found himself entwined with
Philip Seymour Hoffman in a father/son, mentor/master union as part of
Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “
The Master.” And a year later he’s back, this time romancing the voice of an operating system (really) in
Spike Jonze‘s “
Her.” And yet, within that premise is film that we called “
disarmingly funny, insightful and empathetic,” and that we, well, fell in love with. It features a unique vision, tender soul and wouldn’t you know it, a great soundtrack too.
We got our hands on the full list of songs in the flick, and in addition to a couple of new (instrumental) Arcade Fire cuts, the movie features The Breeders, a duet between virtual lovers Scarlett Johansson (who voices the OS) and Joaquin Phoenix, some old timey jams courtesy of Little Willie John and The Chantels and more. Also, Jonze’s bro Squeak E. Clean contributes a track under his N.A.S.A. mantle.
No word yet on when the official soundtrack will drop, but it’ll likely feature most of these tracks (and perhaps more score music by Arcade Fire and Owen Pallett). At any rate, you can hear it all in the movie when it opens in limited release on December 18th before going wide on January 14th.
“Off You” The Breeders
“When You Know You’re Gonna Die” Arcade Fire
“Cleopatra in New York (Zim Zam Mix)” Nickodemus
“Alien Child” Will Collins

“8 Bit Disco No. 3” Philip Guyler
“Need Your Love So Bad” Little Willie John

Ringtone reminded me of "Comrade" by Volcano Choir
What's the name of the song Samantha creates in order to describing the feeling she is having with Ted while being on the beach?

There was a guitar song- only intense beautiful guitar, no vocals- that Samantha played that she said she was playing over and over "recently"- I'm having a very difficult time finding it. If anyone has any ideas please respond!
