If it's one thing we love, it's a great Richard Gere performance. After mistakenly labeling 2002 "The Year of Gere" (due to three fine performances in "The Mothman Prophecies," "Unfaithful," and "Chicago"), it looks like this year might actually live up to our really stupid title. Gere stars in "Arbitrage," where he plays a troubled hedge fund magnate, in a performance many are calling a career-best. And soundtrack details have just emerged for the soundtrack companion album, which features the original score by "Drive"/"Contagion" composer Cliff Martinez and a handful of previously released songs from the likes of Bjork, You Say Party!, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday and Robi Botos.
The official album, which features a whopping twenty tracks from Martinez, plus the already recorded songs "I See Who You Are" by Bjork, "Laura Palmer's Prom" by You Say Party!, "Para Machuchar Meu Coraco" by Stan Getz, "Just One More Chance" by Billie Holiday and "My Foolish Heart" by Robi Botos. Martinez is one of Hollywood's greatest living composers (you know his work from last year's "Drive" and "Contagion") and the prerecorded songs should fill out the album nicely.
"Arbitrage," which open on September 14th in theaters and VOD, co-stars Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth, Laetita Casta, Brit Marling and Nate Parker. The soundtrack album comes out on September 11th. And maybe it really will signal the year of Gere. [Film Music Reporter]
