Everything in its right place…
On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I get back on mic for the first time since our “Hereditary” episode last month. But it’s for a damn good reason, as we dive into the truly oddball and singular world of Boots Riley‘s “Sorry To Bother You.” The film, a bizarre satire with sci-fi/fantasy elements that skewers our modern existence with the force of a blunt strike to the head while also being incredibly silly (not a pejorative in this case) and packed with layers. (Read The Playlist’s review from Sundance.) Safe to say, while we had issues with the movie, we enjoyed it more than our reviewer. Without a doubt, this is a messy movie, but that’s part of its charm.
We get into the reaction to the film as well as its healthy box office returns last weekend, and more—including some brief thoughts on Jody Hill‘s latest movie on Netflix, “The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter“—on this episode. What becomes evident in our chat is that each movie seems to have been released in the perfect spot: ‘Legacy’ is just fine funny enough to be a good lazy watch on the streaming service. While ‘Sorry’ is wildly cinematic and truly benefits from seeing on a big screen with a crowd of strangers in the dark.
