It looks like Roman Polanski‘s sure-to-be Oscar bait “Carnage” has now found a home with Sony Pictures Classics.
Deadline reveals a deal is pretty much signed to inked for the picture. “Carnage,” by French writer Yasmina Reza (the play is originally called “God of Carnage”), is a New York-set story (a location the helmer can’t film in, for obvious reasons, and instead has been shot in Paris) that follows two sets of middle-class parents who meet for dinner after their children get into a fight at school. Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz take on the roles of Penelope, Michael, Nancy and Allen, respectively, and this should easily be an actor’s showcase. The film recently wrapped shooting and as it heads into post, we figure it’s a surefire bet for Venice or TIFF later in the year.
The real-time film will run about an hour and forty-five minutes, featuring the principle leads bouncing off each other in what promises to be one of the most exciting character pieces of the year. No word yet on when the pic will land in theaters but it will surely arrive in time for awards consideration.
It looks like the title\’s changed back to God of Carnage. Deadline used that title and now (for whatever it\’s worth) IMDB is using it.
Yeah, this is one of my most anticipated films of the year. Can\’t wait to see how the Winslet-Waltz dynamic works out..
Gonad, Waltz was not mesmerizing in \’ Green Hornet\’. I don\’t like Jodie Foster in her part. She cannot do sharp-edge comedy. John C. Reilly is perfect casting.
Waltz is going to rock in this, wait and see. He\’s a mesmerising screen presence, though I\’ve only seen him in Inglourious Basterds and The Green Hornet.
Me too! Want to see the play in LA, where it\’s playing with the Broadway cast, but tickets are crazy expensive.
Fuckin can\’t wait.
