Got a Tip?

‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spinoff In Development

Sons of AnarchySpinoffs and reboots aren’t just relegated to the film world. Television executives have figured out that a way to keep popular, existing brands going is by continuing the stories in a sideways manner. Of course, AMC has achieved this with great success via "Breaking Bad" offshoot "Better Call Saul," and now FX is going to give it a try for one of their recently retired programs.

EW reveals that Kurt Sutter is currently developing a "Sons Of Anarchy" spinoff. There aren’t many details, but the twist is that this new show will focus on the Mayans, the Hispanic motorcycle gang featured in the original show. Right now, Sutter is generating the idea, with the plan to executive produce and hand off showrunning duties to someone else.

Good idea? Bad idea? Or should Sutter move on? Let us know what you think below. Meanwhile, you won’t have to wait long for Sutter’s next effort, "The Bastard Executioner," which debuts on the small screen on September 15th.

  1. Eh. I\’m not sure about this. I really LOVED SOA for the first few seasons. In fact, I think Season 1 and 2 are pretty excellent. Season 5 is underrated. But the show really dipped in quality by the final season. Sutter does have the magic to push out some quality content though. But he needs a good editor (who can tell him "No!") and a better group of writers. Also, one of the things that always struck me about SOA was that at the core, it was truly a show about a group of people who knew enough to want better but not enough to achieve it. Sutter scored the casting jackpot with Sagal, Pearlman, Siff, Hunnam, etc. But I don\’t see that happening twice.

  2. Honestly, this isn\’t the spinoff news I was hoping for. I loved SOA and even after 7 seasons I wasn\’t ready for it to end even though the show/story was. LoL. Honestly though I don\’t really care for the Mayans and it feels like it\’ll basically just be SOA but with a different dominate race. I personally want the prequel starring Tellers Dad and his whole story.

  3. Technically Sutter did move on, otherwise he\’d be acting as showrunner. That said, I don\’t think I ever really cared about the Mayans enough to want to witness the ins and outs of their MC. I mean, each time they were stuffed into Sons of Anarchy, they were either antagonistic or bemoaning how strapped for cash they were and looking for some kind of bone the Sons could throw them. Not to say it wouldn\’t work overall, but for me I\’d just as soon be done with the world the Sons, Mayans, etc. dwelled in (for now, at least).
