While they’ll try and make I.P. and franchise out of anything these days, Paramount’s live-action animated hybrid, “Sonic The Hedgehog” film was surprisingly endearing, watchable, and entertaining, perhaps thanks to the voice work of Ben Schwartz as Sonic, the surprising chemistry he had with straight man James Marsden and the inclusion of rubber face Jim Carrey as the bad guy, the brilliant, evil Dr. Robotnik.

In the first film, Dr. Robotnik was banished to another dimension because of Sonic’s transporting rings, but of course, that ain’t going to last long. This edition includes fan-favorite characters Tails and Knuckles as the Sonic-verse builds and introduces all the favorites. The film follows Sonic (voiced by Schwartz) and Tails (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey) as they try to prevent Doctor Eggman (Carrey) and Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba) from finding the Master Emerald. The rest of the cast consists of James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore. Here’s the official synopsis:
