Got a Tip?

So Much Awesome: Will Arnett Is Batman, Channing Tatum Possibly Superman In ‘Lego: The Piece Of Resistance’; Chris Pratt Leads Cast

nullOn paper, the idea of a movie based on Lego sounds ridiculous and so easy to be exploited into a quick cash grab, brainless, toy brand blockbuster. But thankfully, the folks behind "Lego: The Piece Of Resistance" are putting their aims high for something that sounds like it's going to be a total blast. Anyway, we'll just fastforward to the good part: Batman and Superman are gonna be in this.

Variety reports that Will Arnett will take on the Dark Knight (pretty fucking perfect), with Channing Tatum (schedule permitting) to lend his pipes to Clark Kent while "Parks & Recreation" star Chris Pratt leads the cast in the film directed by "21 Jump Street" duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller along with Chris McKay. The film is set to be a mix of live action and animation, and it boasts a pretty decent premise that taps right into the core idea behind Lego to begin with. Pratt will play Emmett, a regular everyday little Lego figure, who is mistaken as a MasterBuilder and suddenly becomes part of a group on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing everything together. Pretty rad.

It's both a clever bit of storytelling a nice bit of corporate synergy (never thought we'd say that), as the "Lego" branded superhero videogames have been big hits (and are pretty fun to play too). Of course, Warner Bros. also has rights to both Batman and Superman and we presume between the two companies, all kind of legal maneuverings and contracts have been signed to make this happen. It might not be "Justice League," but it sounds like a good place holder for now but Batman-News notes that the Batman appearance is expected to be not much more than a cameo.

However, this one is still quite a way off. With 80% of the movie said to be animated, the extensive effects and post-production means this won't hit screens until February 28, 2014. But with Mark Mothersbaugh working on the score, and featuring two iconic superheroes…hey WB, maybe a summer date makes much more sense?

  1. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are really talented, promising directors, and a Lego movie fits squarely into their sensibilities so well that it's amazing this is happening. Unlike Hasbro's stupid board game deals, Lego would translate really well to film. And, hahaha, Arnett is perfect as the voice of Batman, he's got the badass rasp down.

  2. so they are voicing the minifigs or they are actually playing in this film, i dont know how this part animated part live action will turn out but im really looking forward to the film nevertheless
