Got a Tip?

Zack Snyder Reiterates His ‘Justice League’ Cut Not Coming; Never Saw The Final Joss Whedon Version

This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, the Snyder Cut faithful were hoping for vindication. For the very vocal contingent of “Justice League” fans hoping their beloved Zack Snyder’s work on the film would finally see the light of day, SDCC is basically their last hope. And sadly, it appears that for all intents and purposes, the Snyder Cut is dead.

In preparation of the upcoming SDCC, the Wall Street Journal did a piece about the mythical director’s cut of the superhero epic. And since it’s WSJ and not some DC fanboy on Reddit, they were able to get close to people at Warner Bros. and the film, itself, for final, definitive word. And if you’re a Snyder Cut believer, it doesn’t sound good.

They first went to the man himself, Zack Snyder. Unfortunately, the director refused to comment, but his spokesperson said that he won’t discuss a director’s cut and has yet to see the version of the film released in theaters. I don’t know about you, but that sure sounds like someone who doesn’t want to revisit “Justice League.” Clearly, the wounds are still fresh.

WSJ also spoke to people close to the film, who confirmed that Snyder actually oversaw all of Joss Whedon’s proposed script changes and was fully intending on shooting them himself before the death of his daughter (or he was fired, you decide). So, yeah, even if his original version of the film exists, it sounds like Snyder would have changed it himself.

The report also quotes someone close to the production who says, regarding the Snyder Cut, “Who are these people who won’t stop talking about the magical Snyder cut that doesn’t exist?”

And to put the final proverbial nail in the coffin, WSJ spoke to a rep from WB who confirmed there are no plans to discuss a Snyder Cut at SDCC.

But that won’t stop people from talking about it, right? One of those people is Henry Cavill, aka Superman. Of all the people affected by the hiring of Joss Whedon for “Justice League,” Superman was hit hardest. You can tell actually by the fucked up mouth that is prevalent throughout the film.

“I don’t know if [a Snyder cut] actually exists so the only way I can look at it is as a business model, and I don’t know what difference it’s going to make,” the actor told Yahoo Movies UK. “There are stories to be told, which need to be told and adjustments that can be made, but that’s not going to make any difference.”

He continued by saying that a Snyder Cut, though an interesting concept, doesn’t make financial sense for WB. “They’re not going to release it into cinemas and so they’re not going to suddenly make an extra few hundred million,” Cavill added. “So it would be interesting to see what the difference is, but I’d rather focus on the future rather than what’s been.”

Those final words should be enough for Snyder Cut devotees to move on. There’s now definitive word that their precious director’s cut doesn’t even exist. You even have Superman saying it’s time to move on. The DCEU is changing rapidly, and SDCC is going to be about the future. Honestly, judging by pictures of Shazam and Aquaman, DC fans have a lot more to worry about than “Justice League.”
