Did you ever watch “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and think, “God, this show could use some gore, sex, and smoking!” Well, if so, filmmaker Quentin Dupieux is here to grant your wish with “Smoking Causes Coughing.”
As seen in the trailer for “Smoking Causes Coughing,” filmmaker Quentin Dupieux has yet another absurd, ridiculous film for our viewing pleasure. This time, the filmmaker tackles superheroes with a group of Power Rangers-esque crime fighters dubbed the Tobacco Force, as they battle Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, who aims to destroy Earth.
The film stars Gilles Lellouche, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Lacoste, Jean-Pascal Zadi, and Oulaya Amamra. Again, the film is directed by Quentin Dupieux, who is probably best known for his film, “Rubber,” but has also directed comedies such as “Mandibles,” “Deerskin,” and “Keep an Eye Out.” Honestly, if you haven’t seen any of those films, do yourself a favor and check them out. Each is utterly hilarious and completely ludicrous in a way that no other filmmaker can do.
“Smoking Causes Coughing” will arrive in select theaters and VOD on March 31. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
A wildly inventive new comedy from Quentin Dupieux (MANDIBLES, RUBBER), SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING follows the misadventures of a team of five superheroes known as the Tobacco Force – Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra). After a devastating battle against a diabolical giant turtle, the Tobacco Force is sent on a mandatory week-long retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their sojourn goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth.
