It’s not just Marvel, “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” and the recent “Ant-Man” movie and its villain Kang: the multiverse is everywhere, and everyone is exploring the concept. Marvel may want to worry, though; since everyone is getting into the game, it’s really going to make their universes less special. Case in point: even indie filmmakers more DIY than the Daniels are getting in on the trend. The latest multiverse, excuse us, parallel universe film is not a movie but a series called “Slip” from writer-director and actress Zoe Lister-Jones.

Known for her creative partnership with her ex-husband Daryl Wein— together, the two made films like “Breaking Upwards,” “Lola Versus” and “How It Ends”—they split in 2022, and Lister-Jones had already broken out on her own to direct her solo directorial debut “Band-Aid” in 2017. Now she’s got another new solo vehicle in the series, “Slip,” which she wrote, directed, and stars in. The film centers on a woman (Lister-Jones) as she finds herself restless inside a marriage that totally works. A new fantastical journey will take her to parallel universes where she gets into new relationships, new marriages, meets new partners, but ultimately has to find her way back to herself.
On top of starring Lister-Jones, the series features Tymika Tafari, Whitmer Thomas, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Emily Hampshire.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Mae is restless in a life and marriage that works. There is love between her and her husband but little romance. When Mae “slips” and has a one-night stand with Eric, a handsome man she meets at a bar, she wakes up the next morning in a panic, only to realize she’s entered a parallel universe in which she and Eric are married. This is the start of her surreal journey as she slips into other realities and relationships, trying to find a way back to her husband, and, ultimately, herself.
“Slip” will debut in the TV Premieres section at the upcoming SXSW Film & Television Festival. The first season will then be available to watch on The Roku Channel starting on April 21, 2023. Watch the first trailer below.
