Trying to encapsulate the career of Martin Scorsese in a few paragraphs, or even a 12-minute video, is no easy task. But Alexandre Gasulla has given himself that unenviable job with his video tribute to the filmmaker, and he has succeeded with flying colors.
Running 12-minutes long, and covering all of Scorsese’s features through "The Wolf Of Wall Street," Gasulla clearly understands the themes and preoccupations that the director has threaded through his movies over four decades. So this isn’t just a random grab-bag of the best moments from Scorsese’s movies, but a nicely crafted and curated selection of images and sound that gets to the essence of his work. It’s solid stuff. Fetishisizing the violence to "Gimme Shelter" in the first six minutes is a pretty stupid way to show Scorsese. That\’s more apt for Tarantino or John Woo.The rest of the video is great although it could have used the wonderful docs he made too.
