Got a Tip?

‘Sinister’ Will Scare You Again As Sequel Brews

nullYou gotta hand it to producer Jason Blum; he knows how to spend a little and make a lot. Between the “Paranormal Activity” franchise, “Insidious” and “Sinister,” he’s proven he can take a million bucks or so and make that back dozens of times over. And while the found footage movie is now a bonafide franchise, the latter two films are going down that path too. “Insidious 2” arrives later this year and now “Sinister” will be coming to freak you out all over again.

The first film, starring Ethan Hawke and made for $3 million which turned into $87 million worldwide, told the story of a true crime novelist who moves into a house where a family was gruesomely murdered. Upon discovering a box of old 8mm films of other murdered families in the attic, he thinks he may have found his next big story, but may have also unleashed something far more sinister (ha!) in the process. There’s no word yet on if Hawke will return for “Sinister 2,” but Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will write it, while the former, who directed the first installment, will sit out as a new helmer is found. And Blum, of course, is producing.

The Blum brand is quickly developing a following among horror types, and we suppose it’s good news for them. So we’ll pitch this to the fans: is a “Sinister” sequel a good idea? And if so, where should the story go next? [Deadline]
