Got a Tip?

Sigourney Weaver Says The ‘Avatar’ Sequels Start Shooting This Fall

Actress and sci-fi fanboy favorite Sigourney Weaver spoke with The Hollywood Reporter Monday night and revealed that production on the “Avatar” sequels will finally get underway this fall.

The 2009 film, which grossed $2.78 billion and is the highest grossing movie of all time, has had fans eagerly awaiting a sequel since it was originally set to release at the end of 2016. And even though fans will be disappointed as director James Cameron said the film will once again not be ready for the 2018 release date, “We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible,” Weaver said, “They’re so worth it. They’re well worth waiting for.”

The sequel has been pushed back several times while Cameron developed the scripts and the technology for all four sequels. “It’s an epic undertaking,” Cameron said. But Weaver is confident it’s worth the wait. “Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious,” the actress said. “They’re so worth it. They’re well worth waiting for. I’m not worried about that at all. We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”

Weaver is officially returning for the sequels along with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. The big questions remain: When will fans finally get to see the films on the big screen? And how long will their patience last?

‘Avatar 2’ has no official release date.
