It’s a late Friday night so what better time to drop a slews release date on the unsuspecting public. So, get a pen and paper to adjust your calendar and let’s get started and make note: these are all Sony Pictures films.
Perhaps the most significant of the release, tentpole wise is Sony’s “Silver And Black,” a Spider-Man spinoff film focusing on the female characters Black Cat and Silver Sable Marvel adaptation. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Beyond The Lights”) the film hits screens Feb. 8, 2019. That’ll mean the Spider-Man spin off film will face off against Warner Bros.’ “The LEGO MOVIE 2.” And one week after comes an Untitled Marvel Film from 20th Century Fox and Universal’s Dark Universe movie, “Bride of Frankenstein,” so competition will be fierce that month
After that, you’ve got the news of the long-gestating “Sicario” sequel, “Soldado” (translation: Soldier). Starring once again Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin (but no Emily Blunt), A former Lionsgate project (they bailed on it for some reason), Sony will confidently plant the film on June 29, 2018. Director Denis Villeneuve didn’t direct the picture, with Stefano Sollima (the “Gomorrah” TV series) behind the camera instead.
That’s not a bad date for the “Sicario” sequel as the opposition isn’t as crazy as it might normally be in the summer. “Soldado” will arrive in the same weekend as STX‘s comedy “I Feel Pretty,” WB comedy “Tag” starring Ed Helms and Jeremy Renner and an whatever-the-hell-that-is Untitled Fox/DWA/Blue Sky Film.
There’s bummer news for “Bad Boys” fans. Sony has delayed the third installment of the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led series, “Bad Boys For Life.” And perhaps indefinitely? Originally scheduled for November 9, 2018, ‘Bad Boys 3,’ now has been moved to the prestigious TBD release date all filmmakers aspire for.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have had a Sherlock Holmes comedy in the works for some time, but it doesn’t look like it’s shot or is ready yet. “Holmes And Watson,” once a summer release for August 3, 2018 has moved to November 9, 2018, the slot “Bad Boys” exited. These things are often a house of cards.

Lionsgate bailed on Soldado because they ended their entire production deal with one of the production companies behind it, Black Label Media.
