Announced back in February, the new comedy series, “The Shrink Next Door” gained headlines when it was revealed that the show would mark the return of the funny duo of Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. Clearly, this is a combination that will turn a lot of heads, leading many to wonder which network or streaming platform would land the series. Well, the answer is Apple, who reportedly paid for the distribution rights for the first season of the comedy.

According to THR, “The Shrink Next Door,” based on a Wondery podcast of the same name, has found a home on Apple TV+. The streaming service has paid for the rights to distribute the first eight-episode season of the series, which tells the story of a charismatic psychiatrist (Rudd), who slowly takes over the life of his client (Ferrell).
The series is set to be directed by Michael Showalter and written/showrun by Georgia Pritchett. Showalter is best known for his Oscar-nominated film, “The Big Sick.” He’s also the filmmaker behind projects such as “Hello, My Name is Doris” and the upcoming Netflix comedy “The Lovebirds.” Pritchett previously worked as a writer on series such as “Avenue 5,” “Veep,” and “Succession.”
Of course, you don’t really need the list of comedy projects that Ferrell and Rudd have appeared in. Both are well known for a number of projects, and they both co-starred in the two ‘Anchorman’ films from director Adam McKay. So they clearly have a successful working relationship with each other.
No word on when the series might come to Apple TV+. I’m sure the streaming service would like to see it happen sooner rather than later, as the just-launched platform has been struggling to find that megahit that will attract a ton of subscribers and include itself amongst the big dogs in the Streaming Wars. Let’s be honest, “The Morning Show,” “See,” and “Amazing Stories” aren’t exactly exciting casual viewers.
