Generally speaking, fancypants restorations tend to be the domain of arthouse faves or works by revered auteurs, not pictures from the guy who directed “Die Hard” and “The Hunt For Red October.” However, there’s always a few exceptions to the rule, and John McTiernan‘s “Predator” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of them.

The director’s 1987 sweaty, one-liner filled action flick/monster movie has been given a fresh restoration and is headed to theaters this summer overseas. And this newly cut trailer is a pretty quick study of why “Predator” is so beloved, and moreover, the big shoes Shane Black has to fill with his “The Predator” coming in 2018. It’s a big, brawny movie that started a franchise, but that has thus far, never topped the first entry and the chance to see it on the big screen again is one you won’t want to miss.
The new 2K restoration of “Predator” opens in France on August 17th. Let’s hope it makes its way to stateside theaters too.
Hopefully this means Fox will put out a new Blu-ray, as the reviews for the picture quality of the original are less than stellar.
I bought the blu ray when they released it ahead of Predators and it looks fantastic. If you haven’t seen it for yourself you should check it out.
