Images of one of the “Sleestak” creatures from Will Ferrell’s “Land of The Lost” remake have hit the web. Does anyone remember the original or even care about this thing? Maybe the allure of Will Ferrell and Danny R. McBride together will be enough. The studio better hope so, cause the budget for this one is reportedly huge and near the $100 million mark. Hilary Swank’s production company 2S Films have acquired the rights “Something Borrowed,” the 2005 debut novel by to Emily Giffin about a New York lawyer who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiance after her 30th birthday. The film is being produced as a potential starring vehicle for horseface Swank. [Variety]
The fact that French ingenue Audrey Tautou is playing Coco Chanel is old news people. What is news is that Warner Bros has come aboard to co-produce the French-language biopic called “Coco Before Chanel” and German fashion icon/self-parody Karl Lagerfeld has been hired to supervise re-creations of the designer’s clothes. The New York Times attempts to explain the “Watchmen” lawsuit in layman’s terms. It basically explains what is known in studio clause terms as “turnaround,”a “contractual mechanism that allows a studio to release its interest in a dormant film project, while recovering costs, plus interest, from any rival that eventually adopts the project.” But as they note it’s a double edged sword sometimes. Alex Proyas is directing “Dracula: Year Zero” a back-to-basics Count Drac film ala the realistic reboot of “The Dark Knight” (from now on all reboot/remakes will be henceforth made in the gritty and realistic ‘TDK’ tone for the rest of time). Has Proyas done anything remotely of interest since “Dark City” in 1998? A film that even now is decent for its time, but grossly overrated.
