Got a Tip?

Short Cuts: No ‘Footloose For Zac Efron; Someone Fucked Up The ‘Right One’ In DVD And More…

In a bid to be taken seriously despite having starred in 3 “High School Musical” films, Zac Efron has dropped out of the feature film remake/reboot of “Footloose.” Poor Kevin Bacon will be disappointed.[HitFlix]

Tom Selleck, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Mull have joined the cast of Liongsate’s action comedy, “Five Killers” that already stars Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. It honestly sounds like a slightly tweaked version of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” only this time it’s a hitman who falls for a computer tech and eventually the two of them have to go on the run. [THR]

50 Cent’s publicist has given a reason as to why he dropped out of Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables,” as soon as he was given the role which basically amounts to he was busy recording a new album. [MTV]

Bryan Singer could direct, “Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland,” a futuristic comic book series about fighter jets that have been replaced by pilots who battle in racing exo-suits acquired by New Regency Sounds like a video game, not a movie. [Variety]

Liv Tyler will star in indie romantic comedy creatively titled, “The Romantics.” [Variety]

Will the writers of the “Transformers” films not return for “Transformers 3”? Will you care? [/Film]

The “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon,” has found its Wolf Pack. Five American Indian actos have been cast: Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman. [THR]

Someone has fucked up the American DVD subtitles to the Swedish vampire film, “Let The Right One In.” We appreciate that geeks are up in arms over this blunder, but let’s face it, if this wasn’t a foreign film with a horror bent, they would never be writing about a foreign film with fucked up subtitles. There could be a 4th “Mission Impossible” film. Shrug, shrug, shurg. [AICN]

Cameron Diaz is in talks to star in a romantic comedy called, “Swingles.” It’s about wingmen and wingwoman who presumably fall in love. A male lead is being sought. Count us out in advance. [THR]

Atom Egoyan’s “Chloe” will continue to shoot around Liam Neeson’s schedule following the death of Natasha Richardson. [ScreenDaily]

Sam Raimi says he and Bruce Campbell will be back for a fourth “Evil Dead,” film one day. Skeptics note that he’s been saying this for years. [MTV]

Maybe it was the semi lukewarm reviews, but Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, “Broken Embraces” has failed to reach the same box-office heights of his last film in Spain. “Volver” earned around $2.3 million at the Spanish b.o on opening weekend and ‘Embraces’ only took in $1.3 million. Which is worse, the fact that Almodovar’s not doing as well on home turf or the fact that the Spanish are keeping track of their box-office like Americans. [ScreenDaily]
