Got a Tip?

Shocking! ‘Logan’s Run’ Will Be In 3D!; ‘Hairspray 2’ Gets Killed; Dennis Hopper’s Last Role & More

Break out the smelling salts. Here’s something that will surprise absolutely no one: the gestating “Logan’s Run” remake will be, according to producer Joel Silver, in 3-D. He told MTV, “We’re writing a script now and that should be a big 3-D movie and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be.” It doesn’t seem to take much to “pull together” 3-D these days except run through a post-production process. Stuck in development hell for the past few years, the project recently got new life when hotly touted director Carl Erik Rinsch joined the project.

According to director Adam Shankman, “Hairspray 2” got “killed.” At a viewing/launch party for the seventh season of “So You Think You Can Dance,” (really?!) he said “I’m going to kill that rumour now, that got killed.” After the success of the first film, New Line got John Waters to write a treatment for the sequel and brought back songsmiths and producers Marc Shaiman and Matt Wittman. Guess we’ll never hear those songs now (thank God).

Here’s a first look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel in the forthcoming live action/animated mashup “The Smurfs” with some brief video at the link. Well, while we may not be looking forward to this film in any way, shape or form, we will say Azaria has his part nailed. The film will hit theaters on August 3, 2011 and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Sofía Vergara, as well as the voices of Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Anton Yelchin, Paul Reubens, B.J. Novak, George Lopez, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen, Kenan Thompson, John Oliver, Jeff Foxworthy, Tim Gunn and Wolfgang Puck.

Out: Liv Tyler. In: Ashley Judd. An actress swap has taken place in the bank heist comedy “Flypaper,” which starts shooting next week. No reason is given for Tyler’s departure, but the show must go on. Based on a script by “The Hangover” scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film follows a team of “inseparable and stupid” criminals who are one of two different groups of crooks attempting to rob a bank at the same time. Both teams, however, find themselves under attack by a secret enemy — played by Patrick Dempsey — who is looking to save the bank teller he loves. Tim Blake Nelson also stars.

We paid tribute to some our favorite Dennis Hopper’s roles on Tuesday, but for every good or great part he was involved with, it seemed he had another dubious one in his back pocket. It doesn’t give us much pleasure to report that one of the actor’s final roles was voicing a character in what looks to be a very cheap and considerably lame animated children’s film, “Alpha & Omega.” The movie seems to be a sex comedy about two dogs. Explain that one to your kids. Trailer is below. RIP Dennis.
