Here’s Your First Look At Shia LaBeouf Playing His Own Dad On The Set Of ‘Honey Boy’ And It’s Glorious

We’ve been interested in “Honey Boy” since we learned of its existence a couple months ago. Since then, we’ve been anticipating the film, which is a pseudo-biopic about actor Shia LaBeouf, who also co-wrote the screenplay and will star in the film as his own dad. Yep, it’s going to be weird. And awesome.

Now, we’re starting to see set photos pop-up from the filming of “Honey Boy,” and even though we normally don’t do this type of thing, we are going to share these beautiful, beautiful images with our faithful Playlist readers.

As mentioned above, we knew this film was going to be weird, and definitely therapeutic for the controversial star, but we had no idea what to expect. And we damn sure didn’t expect LaBeouf to have long hair (complete with receding hairline), mutton chops, and a construction vest over his own leather vest. It’s equal parts disturbing and incredible, and frankly, we can’t stop looking.

All kidding aside, “Honey Boy” is most definitely going to tackle some heavy issues. The film’s script was featured on the coveted Black List, and has the following synopsis: “A child actor and his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father attempt to mend their contentious relationship over the course of a decade.” So, don’t expect a light-hearted affair.

Starring alongside LaBeouf, in the film, is Lucas Hedges, who is having a great couple years with films like “Manchester by the Sea,” “Lady Bird,” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” “Honey Boy” is directed by Alma Har’el, who is also credited as a co-writer.

There’s no release date for “Honey Boy” yet, but you better believe we’ll be keeping you up to date when we find out!
