Got a Tip?

Shia LaBeouf Back In For ‘The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman’; Zac Efron Out

Shia LaBeoufMovie projects sometimes have strange, curious lives, going through casting changes and riding the tides created by the pulse of the industry in an effort to get made. And the upcoming "The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman" is a good example of that. The 2007 Black List script by Matt Drake ("Project X") first found a star in Shia LaBeouf way back in 2010, but nearly a year passed, and a new brunette hunk in Zac Efron was attached to the lead. Well, almost 365 days have passed since then, and the project is right back in LaBeouf's lap.

Commercial director Frederik Bond is at the helm of the "Pulp Fiction"-style thriller that follows Charlie, who after the death of his mother, heads to Europe to find himself. There, he meets a girl and falls in love. The trouble is she already belongs to an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal, but that won’t deter Charlie who endures one bruising beatdown after another to woo the girl and keep her out of harm’s way. Basically, LaBeouf has done this before, only with Transformers on his ass instead of thugs. Okay, we're being a bit facetious, but this does sound like strong material and we're glad it's finally moving again.

'Charlie Countryman' is now in pre-production and we assume it'll roll soon as the actor's calendar appears to be clear. [Variety]
