Got a Tip?

‘Sherlock’ Creative Team Set To Take On ‘Dracula’

Upon first glance, you might wonder why on Earth we need a new “Dracula” TV series. Well, the same could have been said about Sherlock Holmes before “Sherlock.” So, it’s good news that the creative team behind that series, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, are reuniting for the upcoming “Dracula” reboot series, according to Variety.

“Dracula” is based on the Bram Stoker classic, so there’s no need to go over the premise. We all know what to expect. That being said, the best part about “Sherlock” and even Moffat’s “Doctor Who” reboot is that they both buck conventional thinking. Are we looking at a present day Dracula who is a flawed character with tons of quirks, and obviously witty dialogue? Or perhaps, they’ll go full-on period piece with it and defy their fans’ expectations.

Unfortunately, no one really knows at this point, as both gentlemen are working on separate projects and haven’t written anything yet. These two also have the reputation of working on “Sherlock” when inspiration hits them, and they don’t follow the traditional TV schedule. The odds of “Dracula” hitting TV screens anytime soon is highly unlikely.

What we do know is that BBC will broadcast the series in the UK, and the creative duo plan to release “Dracula” in longer mini-movies, with only a few “episodes” a year, a la “Sherlock.” With Gatiss and Moffat’s workload with “Dracula,” one thing is for certain, it doesn’t look like audiences will be seeing any new “Sherlock” anytime soon, if ever.

Obviously, with no scripts written, casting and other news isn’t expected anytime soon.
