British TV director Benjamin Caron made quite a splash last year with the three episodes he directed of Tony Gilroy‘s “Star Wars” series “Andor.” Now Caron makes his feature directing debut with “Sharper,” an NYC-set neo-noir he schemed up with his long-time producing partner and sister, Jodie Caron.
And what a cast Caron has for a debut film. “Sharper” boasts the talents of Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan for a twisty, nervy thriller where virtually everyone and everything is mired in deception.
Here’s Apple TV+‘s official synopsis for “Sharper”:
No one is who they seem in Sharper, a neo-noir thriller of secrets and lies, set amongst New York City’s bedrooms, barrooms and boardrooms. Characters compete for riches and power in a high stakes game of ambition, greed, lust and jealousy that will keep audiences guessing until the final moment.
Along with Moore and Stan, “Sharper” also stars Justice Smith, John Lithgow, and Briana Middleton. Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka pen the film’s screenplay. Danish cinematographer Charlotte Bruus Christensen, best known for shooting John Krasinski‘s “A Quiet Place,” shoots the film.
So will “Sharper” be the first of many movies for Benjamin Caron? After his acclaimed work on “The Crown” and “Andor,” Caron deserves a shot at a big feature. Before its exclusive premiere on Apple TV+ on February 17, “Sharper” gets a limited theatrical release on February 10. Watch a trailer for the thriller below.
