Got a Tip?

Shane Black To Direct ‘Predator’ Reboot

Predator, SHane BlackIt’s been four years since the Robert Rodriguez-produced, Nimrod Antal-directed "Predators," a reboot of the franchise that kinda went nowhere. The film opened third at the box office in its first weekend, barely made more than $50 million domestic, and ultimately tallied up less than "Alien Vs. Predator" or "Aliens Vs. Predator – Requiem." But Fox reckons it’s still a valuable property that people care about (or they’re gonna make them care about it) because barely four years on, plans are underway for a reboot.

THR reports that Shane Black ("Lethal Weapon," "Iron Man 3") will write the treatment and direct a new version of "Predator." What fans probably already know is that Black had a small role in the original Arnold Schwarzenegger joint, and was asked several times to give a polish to the script of that film, which he refused each and every time. So it’s safe to say he’s familiar with the material. Fred Dekker, who worked with Black on "Monster Squad," will pen the script. And while this is potentially promising, we have yet to hear of what their vision for the series is at this point.

Meanwhile, Black is also developing "Doc Savage" over at Sony, but budget issues are being sorted. That said, he apparently met with Chris Hemsworth for the title role, so maybe if he signed on, some of those financing issues will vanish? Anyway, throw "Predator" on the Black to-do list, and be sure to read our 5 Things You Might Not Know About "Predator" feature.
