Got a Tip?

Seth Rogen’s Next Film Role Involves Playing His Own Great-Grandson & Human Pickling

Seth Rogen has lined up his next major film project. And as you might expect, the actor is tackling a story that is, on the one hand, interesting and perhaps even socially relevant, but on the other, is completely crazy. Get ready to learn about Seth Rogen’s pickle movie.

According to Variety, Rogen has signed with Sony to star in an untitled comedy that is set to begin production next month. But Rogen starring in a comedy is par for the course, right? What makes this film especially interesting? Let’s take a deep dive into the premise, real quick.

The film follows Rogen’s character, Herschel Greenbaum, that immigrates to the US in 1918 in pursuit of the American Dream. He then begins work in a factory job where he helps make pickles. In a freak accident, Rogen’s character falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for a century. Following along? Okay. He awakens a hundred years later to find that his body was perfectly preserved, thanks to the pickling process, and attempts to locate any remaining relatives he might have. Sadly, the only one he comes across is his great-grandson, Ben (played by Rogen, obviously), who is a computer programmer. Hijinks ensue as Herschel attempts to understand modern life with the help of Ben.

Think “Captain America” meets…pickles? With fewer superheroics.

The untitled film will mark the directorial debut for cinematographer Brandon Trost and will be written by Simon Rich, who is probably best known for his work on ‘SNL’ and the short-lived FX series “Man Seeking Woman.” And as you might expect, Rogen is again teaming up with Evan Goldberg and James Weaver to produce.

Rogen has a number of big projects on the horizon. In addition to producing the surprise comedy hit “Blockers,” he stars in the upcoming film “Flarsky” opposite Charlize Theron. In addition, the actor is set to voice Pumba in the big-budget, live-action remake of “The Lion King.”

There’s no release date set for the pickle movie, but with production beginning next month, its safe to say that a 2019 release is in the cards.
