Okay, so when they're not shooting indoors with Baz Luhrmann, it looks like the cast and crew of "The Great Gatsby" are venturing about town including locations like Centennial Park, an urban grassland in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. The first set photos have now hit the internet and provide our first look at Carey Mulligan in costume as Daisy Buchanan, and Gemma Ward as Myrtle Wilson's sister, Catherine.
After earlier set photos showed Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire involved some sort of old-timey play boxing, new pics have landed Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Mulligan on set as the titular Gatsby, Nick Carraway and Daisy. Judging by the photos, one thing's for sure: Luhrmann's partner and regular art/costume designer Catherine Martin might as well use the 'Gatsby' budget and resources to make herself a dress for the 2013 Oscars.
"The Great Gatsby" also co-stars Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Jack Thompson and newcomer Elizabeth Debicki and will hit theaters Christmas next year for what will surely be one of the biggest Oscar-baiting pictures and highly anticipated releases of the season. [CelebBuzz/JustJared/Grazia]
Their hairstyles look like sort of hilarious. By all means appreciate the bunch of cast, and their acting skills.
I love Carey! Leo looks great I like his hair that way but 3D? I do not understand that.
I just don't buy Carey Mulligan in this role- especially in the looks department.
I'm still confounded by the choice to film this in 3D.
woww, the customes looks great.i'm not a big fan of maguire, but leo is one of my favorites.
When will people get the point that Fitzgerald's talent is far beyond the plot? It's why we've had serviceable but uninteresting Gatsby films in the past, his true gifts are unfilmable in the conventional sense. And Baz Luhrmann is definitely not the subtle, intelligent hand needed to rise above the mistakes of past attempts. He's got a great cast, and it will certainly attract attention but I'm bracing myself for impact when this hits. Oh, and how the hell can you film the Great American Novel in Australia?
