Got a Tip?

‘A Serious Man’ Named Best TIFF Film In Indie Poll, New ‘Women In Trouble’ Posters

What was the best film at TIFF? An Indiewire poll, not that scientific because they didn’t include us, voted the Coen Brothers’ “A Serious Man,” as the best film from the festival. We won’t argue much with that choice. It definitely was one of the best films.

SHOCKER! As if you really needed to confirm this?? Michael Caine says, no Johnny Depp won’t be in Batman 3 as the Riddler. Uhh, duh? This is your non-story for the day.

Showtime and Steven Spielberg are teaming up to develop an original series that will chronicle the evolution and development of a Broadway musical. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the musicians and lyricists behind the musical adaptation to Spielberg’s “Catch Me If You Can,” that should debut sometime next year, are also the musical participants here. Drama and then a natural way to progress into song and dance? We like it.
“Women In Trouble,” the campy sex comedy starring Carla Gugino and many attractive Hollywood women traipsing around half naked (Adrianne Palicki, Connie Britton, Marley Shelton,Emmanuelle Chriqui, Cameron Richardson, Caitlin Keats, Elizabeth Berkley) has three new posters. The film, which we saw part of at SXSW, is directed by Gugino’s boyfriend, Sebastian Gutierrez, and hits theaters in November. Bigger version here.

Don’t fret now. Despite claims to the contrary a few weeks ago, Viggo Mortensen says he’s not retiring from acting. Thank god. Someone give this man an Oscar for something. “I have no plans to quit despite what people in the media say. They must be bored,” he said.

Relative unknown Stephanie Szostak will play the almost-certainly-thankless role of Paul Rudd’s girlfriend in Jay Roach’s “Dinner For Schmucks.” The film, a remake of the French movie “Le Diner De Cons,” also stars Steve Carell, Zach Galifianakis and Lucy Punch. Carson at Script Shadow had a review yesterday, which doesn’t sound super positive (although we’re under the impression he’s a bit off in the casting – we’re under the impression that Carell will play Barry, the lead ‘schmuck’).
