Fans have pointed out that “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star Sebastian Stan kind of looks like a younger Mark Hamill for a while now. But now, Stan is going on the record about whether he’s playing young Luke Skywalker, and what it’d take for him to do it.
During an interview on Good Morning America, Stan addressed the fan-casting with skepticism. “If Mark Hamill calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me, then I’ll believe it,” he said. “Until then, I won’t believe it.”
Now, one of the most criticized aspects of the season two finale of “The Mandalorian” was the CGI de-aging of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, which looked awkward and out of place in the episode, especially compared to the extensive use of practical effects elsewhere. If Luke Skywalker is to appear in “The Mandalorian” in the future, why not use an actual actor? Enter Sebastian Stan, who is nearly 40, so not exactly young Luke, but still young enough for a post-“Return of the Jedi” project.

This is far from the first time Stan or Hamill have addressed the fan-casting. Previously, Hamill himself jokingly referred to Stan as his son, tweeting “Sorry to disappoint you but I refuse to say ‘Sebastian Stan-I AM YOUR FATHER!’ (even though, in fact, I am) #SorryNotSorry #MySonSebastian,” and other son-jokes in the past. Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan even appeared on Good Morning America to pretend he was Mark Hamill’s son that same year.
If nothing else, at least they’ve had a laugh at the whole Luke Skywalker thing, and who knows, maybe Hamill can show up as Bucky’s immortal father in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
